Most Americans know Jackie Robinson as the phenomenal athlete who broke baseball's color barrier. But they're less familiar with Robinson the activist. The edge and the strut of this piece should signal that this portrait of the legend digs a bit deeper. A fighter by nature, Robinson challenged the status quo both before and long after his baseball career. The idea was to capture some of that determination and intensity, and present it in a style that's complex, honest and bold.
